THREAD NAME: STANNINGTON BATTLE OF BRITAIN COMMEMORATIVE EVENT 17th JULY 2021

I am writing to you as the Secretary of the above event Committee. I was very kindly given your details by one of your members - Ron Taylor of Forest Hall in Newcastle.

I was going to contact you earlier this year but unfortunately due to the Covid Pandemic chaos any event we had planned for 2020 was obviously cancelled/shelved.

However, we are now going ahead and planning a big Battle of Britain Commemoration Event in Stannington on 17th of July 2021.

In November 2018 we had a Centenary WW1 Event in Stannington which was an enormous success and was attended by nearly 5000 people. We are now next year planning an even bigger event based on the Battle of Britain and we can only cross our fingers and hope that we will be rid of this wretched virus chaos. But we are very confident we can do this.

We are going to turn the Village into RAF Stannington and already have numerous displays etc. booked to attend. We have a Spitfire and a Hurricane coming on low loader trucks all the way from from Kent with a full re-enaction display, a fully operational field kitchen, Spitfire and a Messerschmitt 109 fighter simulators, an operational RAF Control Room, various WW2 displays, an armed re-enactor display by the Time Bandits, Military vehicles, a 1946 bus and much more.

We really hope any of your members with any type of vehicle pre 1950 would come along and enjoy a day with us all and we extend a cordial invitation to them to display their vehicles.

We have plenty of hardstanding space and we are hoping some could park up in conspicuous areas of the village where they could add to the authenticity of our WW2 event.

We have a big 1940s dance in the evening and we hope your members may even stay over to enjoy the festivities.

All in all if this day manages to go ahead we are really hoping to surpass our WW1 event which was huge.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincere Regards
